Day 10: Grave Implications

Hope for Your Marriage

Up to this point, we have demonstrated  that our God has power over the universe. As such, he can do whatever he pleases. And glory to God that it pleased Him to fashion man. Originally, man was holy, happy, blameless and undefiled.  Eventually, man sinned and now we find ourselves here. Somewhere in between thinking that men are from Mars and women are from Venus and searching for answers as to why marriage is so difficult.

I pray that after today’s lesson you will be encouraged to live in a manner that consistently orients you to the ways of the Lord as it relates to all things, but specifically your marriage. Being oriented to the Lord within your marriage is vitally important.  Within your marriage, you can either be oriented to God and respond to your spouse in a way that demonstrates a heart that is holy or you can be disoriented and respond and exist with your spouse in a manner that displays a heart which bears fruit contrary to holiness.

The chief problem in marriage is that, those who are bound in holy matrimony, fail to learn why there is discourse. This failure undermines and prohibits the ability to think rightly about issues that arise. Couples need to possess the faculty to perceive logical connections between the episode in the garden and the hard experiences lived out within  their marriages.

Making the Connection

To rightly view the struggles in your marriage, your gaze must begin and end with Christ. In order to begin with Christ, we must understand that all things point to him. The long of it is, as believers in Christ, every occurrence in life is an opportunity to draw nearer to him, that we may constantly and consistently be sanctified that we may be fit for heaven. The short of it is, we must constantly and consistently extend grace to our spouse, because the grace of God has been extended to us .

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And  this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, sot that no one may boast.”

Ephesians 2:8-9

Taking a Closer Look at the Implications of the Fall

There were implications for Adam, Eve, and Satan. Here we will emphasize the implications for Eve.

“To the woman he said, ‘I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.’ “

Genesis 3:16

It is unequivocally clear. We will face struggles of many kinds within our marriages. The primary struggle is the battle for the role of leader. Our roles were reversed in the Garden of Eden. Adam was with Eve as she spoke to the serpent. His role was to lead and protect her. Somehow he found himself silently sitting by. He eventually obeyed his wife and participated in eating the forbidden fruit. He submitted to his wife’s desires. This act has passed on sin and shame to all of mankind. As a result, women have this natural inordinate desire to rule over their husbands. We naturally reject the original order God created for marriage. We reject the role of male leadership.

Oh, but there is great hope…

“Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous. Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Romans 5:18-21

Ladies, we must first have a relationship with the one, true God before we can set our minds on marriages that last. I hope that the words written upon this page effectively express my heart. Jesus is the answer to an ailing marriage. Seek him and he ye shall find.

It is my prayer that you will remember our natural inclination to oppose our husbands the next time your are facing trials within your marriage. Before you go to your husband in anger, approach the throne of grace and confess your own sins. Consider praying this prayer as you struggle with your husband:

Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!

Psalms 139:23-24

With Love,

1.       Why is there marital discourse?

2.       What does inordinate mean?

3.       Do you agree, that sin temps women to have inordinate desires.

4.       Do you trust that your husband is fit to lead your home? Why or Why not

5.       Do you trust that God can work in your husband to give him the ability to properly lead your home?

6.       Do you pray for your husband’s ability to lead?

7.       Do you pray for your ability to submit?

Hope for Your Marriage

Dearly Beloved!

It is with great pleasure that I am writing to you today. I am blessed to be married to a wonderful man.  We work daily (for the most part) to love our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and each other as the fruit of that.  We pray that each of you reading believe that Christ is the solution to sustaining and improving your marriage.

Several years ago my husband and I had a disagreement.  By the grace of our awesome God, this confrontation ended with us both wondering, “How is it that two married people who love each other fail to constantly and consistently live in holy matrimony?”  We came to the conclusion that obviously sin keeps us from the perfect peace we would love to experience daily with one another.  Additionally, we theorized that it all could be better understood by an examination of the Holy Scriptures, namely, the first three chapters of Genesis.  And just like that the “Adam and Eve Syndrome” was born! (Please take this title lightly. The reality is that sin was passed on to each of us through our original parents, Adam and Eve. The title, Adam and Eve Syndrome, is intended to remind us that we inherited marital discord at birth and the only hope to heal it is Christ.)

Unlocking the key to a successful marriage is a great mystery.  In Ephesians 5:31, Paul states, “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”  He adds, “This mystery is profound, and I am saying that this refers to Christ and the church” (Ephesians 5:32).   Understanding these verses is pivotal as you work towards establishing or maintaining a successful marriage.

Over the next few weeks, we will humbly take you on a journey through God's word and work to demonstrate what it says about the institution of marriage. We pray that you will not only join us in this study, but that  our God will open your heart to every ounce of truth available to you in His word.

It is our prayer that this study will deepen your level of intimacy with God.  We hope that the fruit of your heightened intimacy will be demonstrated within your marriages.  Husbands, may your love encourage your wives to be like “a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table” (Psalm 128:3).

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief, but I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. -1 Timothy 1:15-16

Please watch until the end.It is hilarious!! (This video was previously recorded. Disregard the date of April 10.)
